Nobody does a Garden Party like the Hospice of St Francis
The Hospice of St Francis celebrated their 40th year at the 2019 Garden Party. Held in the grounds of Ashridge House, the event offers a wide range of entertainment including a dog show, live music, local food, raffles & high-quality market stalls. iQuda sent a team of volunteers down to help for the 4th year running. We can honestly say it was their best Garden Party yet!
We’ve worked with the Hospice of St Francis for over 10 years. They are an incredibly passionate bunch who provide outstanding care to the local community – all free of charge. We read yesterday that in the 70’s they helped care for 20 people – today that figure stands at 2000. They are a beacon of hope for people coping with, managing or recovering from a serious illness. They also extend support to families, friends & carers – living true to their motto of helping people to live their precious lives well. The Hospice of St Francis provides care & support from their main site in Berkhamsted as well as in the community & at their Health & Wellbeing Centre.
In order to generate the funds needed to provide free of charge care, the hospice organises events & fundraising initiatives throughout the year. The Garden Party is the icing on the cake – it’s a truly epic day in the sun, bringing people together from all walks of life in aid of the hospice. The event takes place in at the historic Ashridge House, a manor with extensive grounds near Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire. In the garden there’s even a tree that was planted by Queen Victoria!
2019 is a big year for the hospice as they hospice celebrate their 40th birthday this year. The Garden Party this year included a huge range of stalls, multiple live music performers, amazing food & drink from local businesses, pony rides, face painting, a dog show & MUCH more.
We try to help as best we can each year by organizing volunteers to help set the event up in the morning & clean up in the evening. The hospice makes it a really fun experience for us every year, and we get to enjoy the event before/after our shift’s done. This year was no different & we had a great time getting stuck in. Our morning shifters helped lay out stalls & get the vendors set up before sitting back to take the event in. Our afternoon volunteers helped out on the raffle stall & cleaned up at the end of the event.
It was definitely a Sunday to remember. The hospice really knows how to throw a good event & their passion showed yesterday – there were more vendors, stalls & entertainment than we’ve ever seen before. Attendees were out in droves & by the time we left there were huge crowds there to support the hospice.
The hospice relies on fundraising to provide life changing care free of charge. They need our support! If you’re local we strongly recommend you come along to next year’s party. A huge thank you to the hospice & our volunteers for your fantastic work – the world needs more people like you! Thank you for inviting us to help & we look forward to celebrating your 41st year at the next event.
